Firstly, it’s always important to be wary of weird smells, sounds, and fluctuations in your bills. If you notice any of this, it may be a good time to give us a call. In order to avoid having issues, it is important to complete recommended routine maintenance. Trane, one of our partners and leaders have provided some maintenance tips for you to follow in order to ensure everything is running smoothly:
1. Replace Filters
This one is easy. You should be checking on your filters quite often, I would say at least every 90 days. This will allow you to notice when your filter needs to be changed sooner rather than later. Changing your filters on time will allow for smooth and optimal performance. When looking to change your filter, it is always a good idea to look for high filtration air filters. A great example would be the Trane Comfort Performance Air Filter. Compatible with all HVAC systems, it gives you peace of mind knowing that they maximize air flow performance and are backed by Trane.
2. Spooky Sounds
Spooky sounds are always a bad thing. Noises should be at a minimal. If you hear any noises from your HVAC systems that aren’t common then it is definitely time to reach out to an expert. Simply: hear a spooky sound? Turn off the system and call an expert to diagnose.
3. Obnoxious Smells
No one likes these, but unfortunately, they may happen. Slight odors when first turning on a heater (during season change) are ok as long as they don’t return, and it is only once. However, if you are noticing a consistent obnoxious smell then it is probably a good idea to call us and we’ll have one of our experts head out to you immediately.
You can simply look at your ducts if you have an unfinished basement and check for possible tears which could indicate a leak. However, if your basement is finished then this won’t be possible.
5. Review your bill
There shouldn’t be any big spikes in your bill if your usage is consistent. If you notice a huge spike it could indicate that there is an issue with your HVAC system. One of our experts can help diagnose the issue.
6. Outdoor Maintenance
Clean things like dirt, debris, leaves, bugs and so forth around your HVAC unit to ensure smooth operation. You can look around things like the main cabinet, control box, base pan, coil, etc. This would also be a good time to look at our second point, to check for spooky sounds.
